Happy Day, Super Readers! Punxsutawney Phil may have predicted six more weeks of winter, but spring time is as much a state of mind as it is a season. So I’m already embracing longer stretches of sunshine and new buds blooming even if it is forty degrees outside. And to help you put a little spring in your step, too, the Super Readers Club is loaded with goodies todays: a NEW Kitty & Cat comic, a NEW Spring Activity Kit, a Chloe Zoe St. Patrick’s Day Activity Kit AND a NEW mini interview with my kidlit bestie, illustrator Denise Holmes!

Kitty & Cat always look forward to the start of baseball season in the spring. What spring time traditions are you looking forward to? Personally, I’m looking forward to berry-picking at the farm down the road from my house. Yum!

—will be reading her new board book, Chef’s Kiss, and I’ll be sharing the newest Chloe Zoe book, It’s St. Patrick’s Day, Chloe Zoe! Join us for a casual mini book chat and dual read aloud next WED 3/12/25 at 1pm EST over on Instagram. Yay!Mini Interview with Denise Holmes
Q: Chef's Kiss is full of adorable punny sayings! Which one do you like best? Are there any fav sayings that didn't make it into the book?
DENISE: You know me, I love a good pun! My favorite part of this book is 'Remember, all you KNEAD is love to make the best things rise.' There's also a fun illustration of a child pressing their nose to the oven to see if the treat is rising!
Q: Each spread celebrates growns-up and kiddos cooking and baking in the kitchen. Do you and your daughter cook and bake together? What do you like to make?
DENISE: Being in the kitchen is one of my favorite hobbies, next to drawing, of course! I think my love for cooking has rubbed off on my daughter because I'm always trying to whip up something delicious. She enjoys being in the kitchen as well, helping me bake, putting together salads for dinner, or going grocery shopping for the week with me. The kitchen is our happy place. Our favorite recipe is Nikki's (Famous) Healthy Cookie Recipe from 101 Cookbooks.
Q: In what ways do you practice creativity in your life outside of your profession?
DENISE: If I'm not immersed in something creative, I feel like I don't really exist. I enjoy everything from sewing clothes and making quilts to taking photos, cooking, knitting, gardening, and playing the ukulele. Creating is my life force.
